TIME OUT FOR POOR SPORTSMANSHIP

Emotions are running high after last nights election, and like it or not, we have elected President Barack Obama to a second term.  Regardless of which way you voted, the fact remains that as a nation we are divided and as long as we remain that way we won’t accomplish much.  I’ve seen so much ugly on my timeline on Facebook it’s astounding, and it is not just from “sore losers”.  I have made and will make no secret of my leanings, but above all, I am pro people-  all people, however they live their lives unless they want to suppress others from living their lives.

No one side has any better morals and values than any other side-  there is good and bad in everyone, period.  No one side is superior, which brings us to NO ONE IS INFERIOR.  We seem to forget that a lot, especially when we take a bitter defeat.  Unfortunately, even some of the victorious can’t seem to let go of the nasty and are gloating insufferably.  Yes, we have the right to our victory dance, but it is wrong on every possible level to rub it in and rehash why we’re so much better.  We aren’t, get over it.  We’re equals, under whatever god you choose to believe in or not, and as a country we voted to show we are moving towards being equal in each others eyes.  That is not something to be ashamed of, though to hear some tell it most of us are going to Hell.  I hope you are not judged as harshly as you judge others come judgment day.  Just sayin’.

Our country has problems, no question, as does the rest of the world.  Progress brings about change and that is hard for some, but to keep complaining, casting blame, slinging mud and what have you serves no useful purpose.  You can’t undo what was done, you can move forward or you can be left behind.  Your choice.

If our children were such poor sports, win or lose, we would take them from the game until they could act like civilized human beings.  I am asking you to look at your actions from that viewpoint for just a moment and ask yourself what we want them to before they do something:  is it helpful, is it useful, is it uplifting.  If it is not, maybe you could give it a rest, step back until your emotions are under control and you can act in a way you want your children to emulate.

I love you all, diversity is what makes us such a great nation, and I don’t think we should try to be the same, but if we can remember the golden rule, perhaps we can find a way to work together in ways that will be good for us all.
